Cairns Adventure Festival at Harbour Lights

Cairns Harbour Lights is brimming with athletes, organisers and supporters of one of our city’s most iconic sporting events.  The Cairns Airport Adventure Festival kicked off on 1st June 2014 and what a brilliant line up of events it has in store for us. The Coral Coast Triathlon, RRR Mountain Bike Challenge, Great Barrier Reef Ocean Challenge, Quicksilver Reef Swim to Green Island, The Cairns Post Run for Cairns and McDonalds IRONKIDS Cairns – a triathlon designed especially for kids!

We are very proud that our own Cairns Harbour Lights Hotel GM, Liz Terrens, is participating in the Ironman 70.3 Cairns. A 1.9km swim, 90km bike leg and a 21.1km run. Come along and help us cheer her on.

It’s been truly inspiring to see so many “buffed” bodies training on the Esplanade in the lead up to the festival. I have a bird’s eye view from where I live in Cairns Harbour Lights. There is a hive of activity in Fogarty Park, across the road from Harbour Lights, as organizers prepare for the main event, the IRONMAN Cairns. This event has been crowned the most scenic course in the international IRONMAN Calendar and more than 3200 athletes from all over the world are competing.

It is happening on Sunday 8th June and is a must see event. Athletes will take to the water for the 3.8km swim at Palm Cove, (one of the region’s picture perfect palm tree lined beaches) then jump on their bikes for the grueling 180km bike leg along the most picturesque coastal roads in Australia to Port Douglas. There they turn around and ride back to Cairns City.  At Fogarty Park they will transition for the final 42.2km marathon run incorporating the Cairns Esplanade and boardwalk. In fact the route takes the competitors right past our boardwalk restaurants.  So for the best seats in the house, make a booking at Mecca Bah, Dundees or Marina Paradiso for this Sunday 8th June.

No matter where you are, in or around Cairns Harbour Lights, you will not be able to miss the spectacle of the Cairns Adventure Festival.
